We’re bringing together performing artists and filmmakers in San Antonio to workshop a stage musical and film a documentary of the process to benefit community libraries and arts organizations. It’s a celebration of the city designed to generate on-going revenues to help support these organizations for years to come.
An Exciting Project
The Musical
Set in the poorest library in America, the musical centers on the valiant and comic efforts of the library staff and child patrons to save the library from being shut down by an over-zealous building inspector. It is both entertaining and educational and celebrates the library’s important role in the community while also telling a deeply human story.
The Documentary
In the tradition of behind-the-scenes films, the documentary will treat viewers to the nuts-and-bolts process of creating and staging a musical from the ground up. We’ll see the key creative team at work as they polish the book and songs, hold auditions for the cast, design the set, props, and lighting, and endeavor to keep the production on track for its debut before a live audience.
Exclusive Premieres
Both the musical and documentary will have red carpet premieres, and the documentary will be submitted to various film festivals to achieve wider exposure with the hope it will be picked up by an established distributor such as Netflix to reach a national and international audience.
A non-profit will be established to distribute on-going revenues to help support local libraries and arts organizations from sources such as:
Ticket Sales from Live Performances
Stage Musical Licensing Rights
Documentary Licensing Rights
Cast Albums, Books, and Merchandising
